CPU

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) used to connote the tower portion of a typical desktop computer system; these days it is used interchangeably with what Intel and others refer to as the General Purpose Processor (GPP) that handles the majority of tasks on a desktop, laptop, or tablet computer. Most CPUs are RISC-based but an ermerging group of mobile CPUs are ARM-based and often include embedded GPU capability.
