D1

The standard for component-based digital recording, D1 was introduced by Sony and Bosch in 1986. As a SMPTE standard for uncompressed digital video recording, D1 was used in linear and non-linear editing systems, allowing content to be ingested into an NLE without requiring it to be digitized. D1 is still a standard by which standard-definition video content is based, both for online and offline viewing.
