DOCSIS

DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) is an industry specification first developed in 1997 (DOCSIS 1.0) to allow high-speed data transfer over existing cable TV (CATV) systems, including the existing hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) infrastructure used by many cable service providers (MSOs). DOCSIS was developed by CableLabs with input from a variety of big iron, consumer electronics and video encoding companies.
