Digital8

Following in the footsteps of 8mm and Hi8 analog video recording, the Digital8 format was Sony's attempt to capitalize on the popularity of these analog formats in a form factor smaller in size than VHS. BothHi8 and Digital8 were primarily used in consumer cameras, competing against the small cassette size of VHS-C. Digital8 has only recently been deprecated in favor of SD- or drive-based recording formats.
