While over-the-top delivery systems have existed for some time, including voice services offered without requiring the service of a telecom provider, the more recent definition of OTT services deals exclusively with video delivery. Many OTT services integrate with specific set-top boxes (STBs) to allow users to watch web-delivered video content on their traditional television. Examples of OTT include catch-up services and premium content delivery, such as on-demand movie viewing. As such, an OTT viewer can switch television service or data network providers without losing the ability to consume OTT content.
