Thunderbolt

A 10Gbps transmission scheme developed jointly by Apple and Intel, utilizing the PCI Express bus concept augmented by the miniDisplayPort graphics transmission protocol. Currently a copper-only solution, Thunderbolt's optical counterpart, LIghtPeak, has not yet been released by Intel, so Thunderbolt distances are currently limited to several meters given the requirement for active connectors at each end of the copper cable.
