Ultra HD
The industry brand name for consumer 4K monitors is Ultra HD (UHD), used as a way to distinguish it from True HD, another industry brand targeted at 1080p monitors. Ultra HD measures in horizontal pixels where True HD measured in vertical pixels, but UHD is exactly four times the resolution of True HD: 3840 x 2160 pixels versus 1920 x 1080 pixels for True HD. At 8.3 megapixels, UHD is a lower resolution than the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) 4K projection-based 8.8 megapixel resolution, yet UHD’s 16:9 aspect ratio is quite popular given its direct scaling ration from True HD.
