VP7

Acronym:True Motion VP7

True Motion VP7 is a video compression codec created by On2 Technologies as the successor for VP6. Licensed by On2 Technologies in April 2005 for use in Adobe (Macromedia) Flash video playback. Also used for Skype video collaboraiton, in part due to its low latency characteristics. On2 Technologies‚ and all its compression technology‚ was acquired by Google in 2010. On2 claimed VP7 had higher quality than H.264, but this was true only in certain instances (see Transitions, Inc., white paper on Flash Video Codec Comparisons at http://workflowed.blogspot.com/2009/02/on2-vp6-h264-comparison.html)
