OTT Video Distribution Platform VHX Opens Developer API Invites Anyone to Build Their Own Netflix
VHX launches developer API and invites anyone to build their own Netflix-like video services, which can in turn be distributed across the web and over-the-top devices.
Brooklyn, NY(18 Feb 2016)
Last month, video distribution platform VHX unveiled their new white-label OTT apps at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, enabling anyone to launch their own subscription streaming service on the web, iPhone/iPad, Android, AppleTV, and Roku. Now the Brooklyn-based video startup is announcing the public launch of their API and invites anyone – from independent developers to major enterprise media companies – to leverage VHX’s technology platform and build their own custom apps and websites.
With the new VHX API (http://dev.vhx.tv/) developers and media companies looking to build custom, high-quality SVOD services like HBO NOW or Netflix can quickly and inexpensively get to market across all major consumer platforms. Instead of working with several different vendors who only solve for one part of the problem, VHX offers a full-stack, end-to-end solution in a single, developer-friendly API.
Some highlights:
- Video management and encoding for playback across all major devices and platforms
- Global CDN delivery for fast, reliable video streaming
- Metadata and tagging capabilities for content management
- Branded HTML5 video player, Roku, AppleTV, iOS, and Android apps
- Industry-standard DRM (optional)
- Video analytics per device, geography and customer engagement
- Customer insights and messaging
- Entitlements (management of rights for a given customer to access specific content)
- Simple, pay-as-you-go pricing
- Developer support via email, Slack, and IRC
- Up-to-date documentation and sample code
Programming languages that are currently supported include Ruby, Node.js, and PHP, and more languages will be added over time. Anyone can register for an API key by visiting http://dev.vhx.tv/.
“We’re excited to open up our API to the developer community and help people build their own video platforms. We got into this business in 2012 in large part because there wasn’t a developer-friendly, end-to-end solution for premium video – everything required large upfront commitments and only partially solved the problem. We hope to work with companies, both big and small, that are looking for an economically viable way to build customized video experiences,” says Jamie Wilkinson, co-founder & CEO of VHX.
