AEG Digital Media Expands With Cisco Streaming Technology to Provide an On-Ramp to Videoscape Experiences

LAS VEGAS, NV(12 Apr 2011)

Cisco today announced that AEG Digital Media, the leading provider of complete webcast management and digital media services for live video-streaming events, has expanded its existing deployment of Cisco® technology to enable the delivery of live streaming video to any device over any Internet Protocol (IP) network. AEG Digital Media’s innovative use of Cisco’s digital media processing technology, a foundational part of the Cisco Videoscape™ portfolio, has helped AEG Digital Media fuel its business, and grow its applications and customer base.

AEG Digital Media had standardized on Cisco’s Spinnaker™ live streaming appliance, which enables the real-time delivery to PCs, Macintosh computers and mobile devices of such content as the annual Grammy Awards, FarmAid’s 25th Anniversary Benefit Concert, the FIFA World Cup Kickoff Concert, and the Amgen Tour of California. The Spinnaker solution, based on the company’s recent acquisition of Inlet Technologies, is used in streaming multimedia over managed and unmanaged networks, and adapts the quality of the video stream based on real-time network conditions. AEG Digital Media’s use of Cisco core networking infrastructure, powered by Cisco routers and switches, supports the video-streaming technology to deliver reliable and quality live video services.

“The advent of over-the-top digital broadcast TV combined with online content, social media and mobile communications is fueling a tremendous market growth opportunity for innovative media content providers and service providers,” said Suraj Shetty, vice president of Cisco’s Service Provider Business Group. “By 2013, we estimate video will represent more than 90 percent of all consumer Internet traffic. AEG Digital Media is an outstanding example of a video-content enabler seizing this opportunity by taking advantage of the capabilities of Cisco’s portfolio to deliver compelling video experiences to consumers, including those on the latest mobile platforms like the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.”

The comprehensive Cisco Videoscape platform for service and content providers brings together digital TV and online content with social media and communications applications to create a truly immersive home and mobile video entertainment experience. The Cisco Videoscape solution has network intelligence built in to enhance Internet video on TVs and mobile devices, and to deliver the premium quality necessary for a higher-resolution experience instead of “best-effort” quality.

AEG Digital Media recently added 10 additional Cisco Spinnaker appliances to its existing infrastructure, which now has 40 in its state-of-the-art $25 million digital broadcast operations center at LA Live, AEG’s $2.5 billion 4-million-square-foot entertainment district in Los Angeles. Cisco’s technology is enabling AEG Digital Media to serve its customers in delivering any premium live streaming event, including supporting a projected 1,000 premium events in 2011.

“AEG Digital Media is committed to consistently delivering consumers online video experiences that combine striking broadcast quality with outstanding reliability and performance,” said John Petrocelli, vice president, sales and business development, at AEG Digital Media. “Cisco’s enabling technology is an integral part of our solution to help ensure that live streaming video content is delivered with the highest quality and to the widest range of screens and devices.”
