Adap.tv, a Division of AOL Networks, Grows Global Footprint with Expansion to Japan

Hisashige “Qz” Hashimoto appointed to lead new team in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan(17 Sep 2013)

Adap.tv, the technology partner of choice for some of the world’s largest video advertising buyers and sellers, today announced it has expanded its investment in Asia with the opening of its newest market presence in Japan. Serving as representative director of AOL Online Japan and Adap.tv’s Japan operations as a part of AOL Japan will be Hisashige “Qz” Hashimoto, who brings to Adap.tv more than a decade of experience leading global technology companies across a number of industry verticals.

Viewership of online video in Japan, like in other global markets, has increased markedly over the past few years with the advent of smartphones, tablets and other connected devices. ComScore reported that Japan had more than 60 million unique video viewers in December 2012, with the average viewer spending 26 percent more time watching online video than the year before. Adap.tv’s Japan operations will draw upon the leadership of Hashimoto and a team experienced in building successful video ad businesses to capitalize on the growth in IP-delivered video content.

“Adap.tv is one of the most forward-thinking businesses in the online video ad industry and continues to build out the teams and technologies needed to capitalize on the global opportunity of online video,” Hashimoto said. “Japan is a burgeoning online video market, one that holds yet-untapped potential for video advertising. I am eager to lead Adap.tv’s Japan operations in helping marketers accomplish their brand goals in the region.”

Adap.tv President Toby Gabriner added, “Our approach is to invest strategically in high-opportunity global markets, and the establishment of our presence in Japan is a key part of our growth strategy. While previously operational in Japan via our regional hub in Sydney, Australia, having a regional presence led by Qz enables us to further scale within the region and introduce sophisticated video advertising technology to a fast-developing market.”

Prior to joining Adap.tv, Hashimoto served as president of Brightcove K.K., leading the company’s operations in Japan and driving overall customer acquisition efforts targeted at Japanese media companies and marketers. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of Paygent, an Internet billing gateway service provider, and served in various senior management positions for Macromedia KK (acquired by Adobe), DeNA and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

The opening of Adap.tv’s Japan operations follows on the heels of Adap.tv’s investment in a research and development center in Hyderabad, India. Adap.tv is currently hiring in both locations to fill various sales and engineering roles, as well as recruiting aggressively in Europe and the US. Current career openings at the company can be found at https://www.adap.tv/careers/openings.

Yasushi Okue, current representative director of AOL Japan, will continue to keep his title and role in managing AOL’s media business in Japan, including the Japanese version of TechCrunch, Engadget and Autoblog.
