Adstream takes International Standards Conversion in House with Teranex 2D Processor
Fremont(01 Nov 2012)
Blackmagic Design today announced that AdPro, a department of global media technology group Adstream, has deployed the Teranex 2D Processor to support delivery of finished commercials to broadcasters around the world. The processor will be used in conjunction with a workflow that also includes a Blackmagic Design Micro Videohub and a SmartView Duo rack mounted monitors.
Recently formed, AdPro offers services that Adstream had previously outsourced to third party suppliers. Encoding more than 500 commercials a day in the UK alone, the addition of Blackmagic’s Teranex 2D processor means Adstream is now capable of handling its own Broadcast SD and HD standards and format conversion in house.
Operating an entirely file based architecture, Adstream will also use the Teranex processor for time base correction and the removal of illegal digital values via the the processor’s SDI baseband.
In partnership with UK based systems integrator NMR, AdPro has also created a studio workflow built around the Blackmagic Design Micro VideoHub. The 16x16 SD-HDI hub is a powerful broadcast grade routing switcher that lets AdPro eliminate complicated manual video patching and easily change connections from anywhere in the AdPro facility. Capture and playback is handled by two Apple iMacs running thunderbolt video I/O devices, with the Blackmagic Design Smartview Duo used to display the output.
This set up is replicated across AdPro offices in France and Brazil as well, allowing all three offices to communicate with one another. Through Teranex’s ethernet availability, AdPro can remotely patch machines while the Teranex web interface allows Adstream’s regional offices from around the world to create dubs over the company VPN.
“We need to have the highest standard and quick turnarounds that broadcast and outdoor are reliant on. With Blackmagic this is not only an option but a reality, making our decision to deploy Blackmagic’s Teranex 2D a simple one,” said Craig Russill-Roy of Adstream. “Not only can we now convert all of our international media, but we also have the ability to control this from anywhere in the world. Married with a Videohub, we have the ability to switch units from the UK or USA, allowing all 30 of our global offices to work in real time.”
“Our first job on the Teranex 2D was a global reach campaign for car manufacturer Nissan promoting a new electric car, the Nissan Leaf. Produced in Melbourne Australia as 1080i25 and 625, we had to convert to all NTSC. The Teranex video processor proved extremely responsive. When switching sources it would lock and allow immediate encoding. The built in UltraScope is also brilliant because it means we have our metering in once place.”
