Brightcove Selects castLabs DRM Licensing Technology to Power Next-generation Media Delivery Security
DRMtoday to secure content streaming for Brightcove's media delivery platform.
Los Angeles(06 Sep 2016)
castLabs, a digital video technology and services company, today announced a new partnership with Brightcove Inc., the leading provider of cloud services for online video. castLabs is supplying its DRMtoday digital rights management (DRM) licensing technology to enable secure content streaming as part of Brightcove’s next generation media delivery platform.
Whether providing studio titles or monetizing original content, an important component of the online video distribution chain is content protection via DRM. The fact that different consumer devices and platforms support different DRM systems adds significant complexity for content distributors. To help Brightcove’s next generation video distribution platform reduce this complexity and securely reach all end-users, castLabs is supplying its cloud-based multi-DRM licensing service, DRMtoday.
DRMtoday is designed to reduce the complex nature of delivering DRM-secured content by providing licensing for leading systems including Google Widevine™, Microsoft® PlayReady®, and FairPlay Streaming by Apple® through a single API. Through integration with Brightcove’s backend and players, the castLabs DRMtoday technology will enable DRM-protected MPEG-DASH, HLS, and Smooth Streaming delivery over the widest range of smartphones, tablets, TVs, set-top-boxes, and desktop browsers. The technology’s multi-tenant framework provides simple reseller integration and also allows Brightcove to implement its customers’ DRM requirements on an individual basis.
“Partnering with Brightcove helps to achieve its vision of seamlessly reaching all consumer end-points,” said Michael Stattmann, Managing Director of castLabs. “In a fractured DRM environment our collaboration is simplifying Brightcove’s solution even further by enabling comprehensive security with global scalability for its customers’ on-demand and live video. DRMtoday facilitates content protection across existing devices but is also future-proof for what’s to come, allowing Brightcove to support emerging use cases such as studio hardware-DRM requirements for UHD, HDR, and other new content formats.”
Phil Costa, Vice President, Product Management, Brightcove, said “DRM remains a must-have for many content publishers and has been an important security offering in the Brightcove video platform. castLabs’ technology fits well with our multi-DRM strategy. It enables Brightcove to deliver the right license to the right device, regardless of DRM type, allowing our customers to reach consumers wherever they are accessing content.”
Both companies will be exhibiting at IBC in Amsterdam from 9-13 September 2016. castLabs will be demonstrating its video delivery and licensing solutions at booth 14.L02, and Brightcove will be showcasing its video platform technology at booth 5.B69.
