Dialogic Challenges Application Developers to Create the Future of Mobile Video
Kicks Off Second Annual Dialogic Innovator Competition, Offering Cash Prizes for Next-Generation Mobile Video Applications
Parsippany, New Jersey(21 Apr 2010)
The explosive growth of mobile video is changing the way the world communicates. It is predicted that overall consumer IP traffic will move from mostly voice to primarily video traffic in the next 3-5 years, and that mobile application revenues will be in the billions. In fact, recent industry research by Cisco forecasts that 90% of overall consumer IP traffic will be video-related by 2013.
As a leading worldwide provider of enabling technologies for communications applications, Dialogic Corporation ("Dialogic"), is helping to power the future of video. Today, Dialogic is calling upon developers who share its video vision to do their part to create the next generation of mobile video applications as part of the Second Annual Dialogic Innovator Challenge.
The theme of this year's Innovator Challenge is to create the Ultimate Sports Application based on video. The grand prize winner of the Challenge will receive a cash prize of US$10,000, while the first runner up will receive a cash prize of US$5,000 and the second runner up will receive a cash prize of US$2,500.

The Innovator Challenge will run from April 19, 2010 through September 10, 2010, and is open to application developers worldwide who are ready to trial, go to market with, or have recently deployed an innovative, new mobile video or social networking application that is built on one or more Dialogic® components. All submissions must incorporate video and be relevant to sports in some way in order to qualify. The prize winners will be chosen by a panel of judges from Northern and Latin America, Europe and Asia, with consideration given to the results of online community voting on the Dialogic Innovator Challenge contest portal.
The judging panel includes:
- Rob Bamforth, Principal Analyst, Communication, Collaboration and Convergence, Quocirca Ltd.
- Konstantin Chervyakov, Head of Java Development, Next Media Group (Shamrock Games)
- Dr. Sven Hischke, Vice President, Innovation and Technology Management, Deutsche Telekom
- Jim Machi, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Dialogic
- Roberta Prescott, Editor, InformationWeek Brasil
- Roderick Snell, President, Video Convergence Forum
- Rich Tehrani, President & Group Editor in Chief, Technology Marketing Corporation
"Following the success of last year's inaugural Dialogic Innovator Award Competition, we wanted to again give application developers an opportunity to be rewarded for using Dialogic products to build exciting new applications," said Jim Machi, senior vice president of marketing at Dialogic. "We recognize that video will play an extremely important role in the evolution of the mobile market, so this year we're focusing the Competition on what developers are doing to create new mobile video applications or energizing current voice applications with mobile video capabilities, plus we're incorporating a sports theme in this year when worldwide attention is especially focused on several multinational sports events and competitions."
How to Submit Entries
In order to submit an entry for the Innovator Challenge, application developers must register within the DEN if they have not done so previously, and must join the "Innovator Challenge" group. There, they can fill out an entry form and upload a video of their sports-themed mobile video or social networking application. The three winners will be announced the week of September 28th at the NetEvents Service Provider Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.
To support developers' efforts in connection with the Innovator Challenge, those interested in participating will be able to download free software, including the Dialogic® IP Media Server, Dialogic® Host Media Processing Software and the DiaStarTM Server, as well as to use the Dialogic® VisionTM Servers and Gateways to help develop their innovative mobile video applications. Dialogic is also offering access to a Developer Network that will allow developers to use and test Dialogic® products and Dialogic partners' peripheral systems for the development of trial applications. In addition, in-person or online training courses are available to help developers, including participants, gain proficiency in evaluating, developing, and deploying solutions based on Dialogic products. Additional resources and information are available on the Innovator Challenge website, including the full Terms and Conditions for the Challenge.
