Discover Video Introduces Enterprise Video Streaming Distributed Clustering

Wallingford, CT(26 Sep 2013)

Discover Video today unveiled DEVOS Distributed Clustering which provides highly scalable enterprise video streaming. This unique feature allows large organizations to deliver live and on-demand video efficiently across the internal and external networks to viewers on any device. It is ideal for corporations with many remote offices, universities/multi-school K-12 districts, government agencies, or large healthcare organizations.

Clustering enables multiple servers to behave as one server for increased capacity, but DEVOS goes way beyond this by providing smart integration with Cloud servers, premises servers, and DEVOS slave servers. The system is perfect for enterprises with multiple locations because both live and on-demand video is automatically replicated to all servers wherever they are located.  Even though everyone accesses the same system, live and on-demand content is automatically delivered from the server nearest the viewer.

Viewers at branch offices in Hong Kong, London, or Sal Paulo transparently receive live and on-demand streams from their local servers; headquarters viewers receive the streams from their servers, and public Internet viewers receive their streams from the Cloud. In addition, every location can have their own cluster of multiple servers and content delivery is automatically load balanced to provide extraordinary scale for enterprises of any size.

“Enterprise streaming needs are different from streaming to Internet consumers” said Rich Mavrogeanes. “Most enterprises don’t have enough bandwidth to support thousands of live streams delivered to desktops from the public Internet, but plenty of bandwidth on the LAN. DEVOS makes it easy to stream live and on-demand video everywhere and it virtually eliminates bandwidth worries”.

DEVOS supports Active Directory, including when configured in a Distributed Cluster.  When operating with DEVOS Cloud, enterprise users can use their office credentials to access live and on-demand content over the public Internet.  Another benefit of the DEVOS clustering feature is automatic back-up of valuable video assets.

“One of the key factors in getting online video right is getting your network distribution strategy right from the start,” said Steve Vonder Haar, senior analyst with Wainhouse Research. “The DEVOS clustering feature offers a hybrid platform that combines on-premise and hosted offerings to address the issue of scalability – a key concern of many organizations contemplating the deployment of a streaming solution.”
