Marin County, California(04 Jan 2011)

DivX, a division of Sonic Solutions (Nasdaq: SNIC), today announced its first DivX Plus HD Certified chip for set-top boxes (STBs) with Broadcom's  BCM7208 HD IP STB system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution. In addition, Broadcom has continued to expand DivX Plus HD Certification across its digital TV SoC solutions by certifying the latest BCM35230 connected DTV platform. Broadcom's new STB and digital TV solutions with DivX Plus HD support will be demonstrated at CES 2011, along with DivX TV™ ported to Broadcom platforms.

Broadcom's new SoC solutions provide playback of DivX Plus HD H.264 video in an .mkv file container using the USB slot or streaming from the home network via Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) for easy viewing in the living room. In addition, both SoC platforms enable consumers to enjoy special DVD-like features, including automated chapter points, enhanced trick play, and multiple video, audio and sub-title tracks.

"Broadcom is a Fortune 500 company, and its adoption of DivX Plus HD technology in set-top box and digital TV platforms and support for DivX TV are important wins for DivX," said Matt Milne, Executive Vice President and General Manager, DivX. "We look forward to continuing to offer consumer electronics companies the very best solutions for enjoying DivX video in the living room and beyond."

"As online videos proliferate to several screens in the home, Broadcom supports DivX technology on multiple connected home platforms, enabling a rich and seamless Internet video entertainment experience, wherever and whenever," said Dan Marotta, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Broadcom's Broadband Communications Group.

DivX Plus HD Certification is the premium level of certification available from DivX, optimized for consumer electronics products and supports the playback of all content created with DivX software. Available on www.divx.com, DivX Plus Software allows users to create and playback H.264 video in an .mkv file container. Integrated DLNA technology support enables consumers to locate and enjoy digital content anywhere on their home network and effortlessly move or stream this content between DLNA-connected devices. It includes an advanced multi-format video decoder, Ethernet PHY and HDMI 1.3 output.

The BCM35230 is the third DivX Plus HD Certified digital TV solution from Broadcom, following the recent certifications for the BCM3549 and BCM3556 DTV platforms.
