Elemental Technologies, the leading provider of massively parallel video processing solutions, today announced the company is solidifying its leadership in GPU-accelerated video processing, extending its architecture to support high-speed video conversion on the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family. Intel will present an initial technology demonstration at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas January 6-9.

“With its new video-optimized integrated graphics architecture, Intel provides a platform that allows us to push the boundaries of our software,” said Sam Blackman, CEO and co-founder of Elemental Technologies. “Through this exciting relationship, Intel and Elemental are laying the foundation to continue delivering unprecedented video processing performance across Elemental’s industry-leading product suite.”

Intel’s next-generation media engine and high-performance video pipeline provide access to a massively parallel graphics processor for compute-intensive video processing tasks. Performance tests on these new Intel Core processors demonstrate Elemental software transcoding a high-definition feature-length film to a mobile profile in less than ten minutes.

“Intel is pleased to see Elemental take full advantage of the Intel® Quick Sync Video technology in its Badaboom Media Converter,” said Elliot Garbus, vice president of Intel’s Visual Computing Software Division. “In doing so, the company brings world-class transcode capability to all users of the 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family.”

“Accelerated GPU-based encoding solutions that work in tandem with the CPU, such as those offered by Elemental, deliver superior performance compared to software-based CPU-only solutions,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research. “Elemental's expertise in utilizing heterogeneous platforms for high-speed video processing is keeping the company ahead of the innovation curve.”
