Encoding.com Launches HLS Pro
Encoding.com has Announced an Advanced Suite of HTTP Live Streaming Services for Broadcast and Media Clients
San Francisco, CA(03 Sep 2014)
Encoding.com, the world's largest cloud media processing service, has introduced a new service, HLS Pro, to enable the best quality output for HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), the leading adaptive bitrate standard for video to mobile and and set-top boxes streaming to the living room.
As the HLS adaptive bitrate protocol has gained broader popularity and broader device support, the specifications have evolved. Processing and managing HLS video delivery at scale can be complex, and Encoding.com has followed with their support and the introduction of HLS Pro. This new service includes major updates to all components of the HLS workflow including:
Processing Speed: Parallel single tenant, 16 core processing of individual HLS streams ensures even complex HLS jobs are processed in a fraction of real time.
Maximum Playback Compatibility: A new proprietary HLS preset that has been rigorously tested on over 50 of the most popular device/OS/browser combinations across smartphones, tablets, and connected television devices. Encoding.com’s HLS streams comply with Apple’s Media Validator and the Apple Store Media submission guidelines.
Low Format Overhead: v3 of Encoding.com’s proprietary HLS segmenter that produces extremely low format overhead reducing HLS storage and delivery costs.
HLS Customization: API and UI based granular control of all encoding parameters on a per stream basis to allow for a highly customized HLS stream.
Advanced Features: Additional features include ability to .tar or .zip HLS output before delivery to CDN to significantly decrease delivery time, optional AES 128 HLS Encryption, Dolby HE AAC Audio only streams, and closed caption support in CEA 608 or WebVTT formats.
“As HLS has become the dominant adaptive bitrate standard, Encoding.com has invested heavily into ensuring our HLS output is the fastest, most flexible, and highest quality product in the market. We would encourage anyone looking to deploy a HLS based video strategy to compare HLS offerings carefully, as there are huge discrepancies in speed, quality, and device compatiability in the market today.”said Greggory Heil CEO/Founder of Encoding.com
In addition to the new advanced HLS features, Encoding.com’s universal URL platform, Vid.ly, now includes HLS Pro, providing even broader device support with less storage footprint. With this release also comes support for the latest closed caption standard, WebVTT, ensuring broad accessibility support.
