The Scitable mobile version, launched on August 25, extends access to science information to millions of students throughout the developing world, with content optimized for delivery on iPads, iPhones, Android phones, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and popular feature phones from Nokia and Samsung.

Ensuring that Scitable.com's free science library and set of learning tools are available to everyone in the world, across all platforms-broadband and mobile-is a critical step in achieving this goal. Nature Education found that creating and repurposing content for display on mobile devices is challenging. There is a lack of standardization across a variety of OS platforms and phone specifications, including supported video and audio formats, screen sizes, recommended bitrates, and much more. Encoding.com's Mobile Made Easy presets enabled Nature to streamline encoding for the most popular mobile devices. With the new service, Scitable's videos are optimized for each mobile device and mobile users are directed automatically to the site for the specific mobile device they are using.
