Gigs Live a new hybrid concerts platform offering live musical performances online and at select venues nationwide, has launched with a line-up of all-star recording artists, including country superstar Justin Moore, multi-platinum-selling rockers Daughtry and alt-rock muse A R I Z O N A.
The brainchild of former executives from ViacomCBS, NBC, Amazon and MIT Alumni holding patents in video and advertisements technology, the startup promises to disrupt the concert industry by offering a new way for fans to connect to their favorite artists and to each other. Unlike other live-music platforms, Gigs Live is a full-service event-content and video production company with performances produced simultaneously at designated venues and distributed globally.
The company’s mission is to improve the concert-going experience for both fans and artists alike. That starts with delivering superior audio-video quality.
“Our internally developed technology stack is cloud-based and globally scalable, with streaming up to 4K and multichannel audio. It’s also completely agnostic, and can be accessed on any smartphone, tablet, laptop, game console or TV,” says Ashutosh Nayak, CEO.
The fan experience is further enhanced by professionally produced concerts, each unique and reflecting the individual artists and their music. Following a concert, ticket-holders can relive the experience online as many times as they like. (A couple of songs from each concert are made available free to the public on the Gigs Live platform after each event.) Fans can connect with other fans and the artists by creating their own “tribes'' or communities on the Gigs Live platform. Ticket prices are completely transparent with no service, credit card, commission or any other hidden fees.
For artists, Gigs Live offers one of the highest paid advances in the industry with the majority of the revenue from ticket sales and merchandise remaining with the artist once the advance is recouped. Artists also have access to audience analytics with ticketing information shared in real time. Each concert is promoted through a multichannel marketing campaign that includes social media, PR, direct email and messaging, affiliate marketing, audio streaming apps and digital radio spots.
“We select artists and work with them to develop well-produced, evergreen content. Artists just bring their craft, and we take care of the rest -- from production to distribution. Using Gigs Live, an artist can make every concert a stop on a world tour,” says Nayak.
Gigs Live is backed by Y Combinator, a U.S. seed-money, startup accelerator, which has been used to launch more than 2,000 companies including Twitch, Reddit, Airbnb, Instacart, Door Dash and Dropbox. The Gigs Live executive team includes Vaibhav Kharat, CTO, and Larry Richter, a music industry veteran with 30 years of experience in concert promotion, talent booking and tour-event management.
“We want to innovate and add value to the entire music concert ecosystem. The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the industry upside down. But it’s also presented an opportunity to think differently about how live music can be experienced in a better way,” says Nayak.
