Deal Expands Government Market Reach & Advances Service Initiatives

Granicus, an award-winning cloud computing provider for government transparency, efficiency, and citizen participation, today announced that it has acquired Webcasting.com, the privately held live and on-demand streaming services provider. The acquisition adds 60+ government agencies to Granicus’ client-base, expands the company’s reach in the northeast state and local government markets, and advances its government services portfolio.
The deal reaffirms the company’s position as the #1 streaming media solutions provider for government. Granicus now has over 750 government clients of all sizes and in all 50 states, supports over 3,000 government staff members, and serves over 25 million videos online. “Granicus and Webcasting.com share a vision for leveraging the power of streaming media and digital technology to transform the way government creates transparency and connects with its citizens. Our decision to buy Webcasting.com will bring us closer to achieving this goal,” says Tom Spengler CEO & Co-Founder of Granicus. “Our experience, proven technology and 99% customer satisfaction rating puts us in a strong position to help Webcasting.com customers maximize their investment in online video.”
Through Granicus, Webcasting.com customers can strengthen their online media capabilities and provide citizens with more ways to stay engaged and informed in government. Their media assets will be migrated to the Granicus’ highly redundant, world-class hosted infrastructure to boost operational performance. Also, by adding components of the company’s cloud computing platform and product suites, they will have the opportunity to measure audience interest, provide keyword search across their media content, save staff time by indexing video live, broaden their reach to mobile devices, and improve their web presence through a wider variety of website integration options.
The acquisition also strengthens Granicus’ ability to provide full service government streaming solutions. Learning from Webcasting.com’s business model will enable the company to provide even more flexibility to customers. Some of its turnkey services now include: on-location video production, closed captioning, minutes annotation, transcription, advanced encoding, indexing and publishing.
“More than ever, government agencies need vendors to offer services that meet their unique business requirements.” says Spengler, “Granicus achieves this by providing end-to-end streaming services that are flexible enough to work with governments existing processes, systems, and budget.
