HBC goes OTT with Amino with successful trials of Freedom Jump companion device

London(19 Apr 2012)

HBC (Hiawatha Broadband Communications, Inc.), the Minnesota-based FTTH "quadplay" services provider, is trialling Amino's Freedom Jump OTT media centre as it seeks to offer new and innovative entertainment experiences to its 20,000-strong customer base.

Working closely with platform partner aioTv, Amino's Freedom Jump delivers a new layer of content that is blended seamlessly with an HBC's existing branded user interface. This allows viewers to access a wealth of additional OTT content from the open Internet such as movie-on-demand services, catch-up TV, Internet music services and social networking alongside traditional broadcast entertainment.

HBC's Executive VP Dan Pecarina said: "We strive to deliver the very best in entertainment to our customers and we have had very positive feedback on this latest innovation. We are very community focused as a company and see OTT as a means to expand and extend both the breadth and depth of local content alongside our existing strong commitment to our customers."

Amino VP sales North America Dan Carufel added; "There is growing demand from innovative service providers like HBC to really embrace OTT as a key part of their offering. The response from both a customer and technical perspective has been excellent and we look forward to continuing the work with both HBC and our partners aioTV to extend the trial."

HBC provides telecommunications services to communities in southeastern Minnesota, providing telephone, Internet, video, and mobile phone services to both residential and business customers. The company serves the greater Winona area and St. Charles with hybrid fiber-coaxial networks and Lewiston, Minneiska, Rollingstone, Stockton, Utica, Plainview, Elgin, Dover, Eyota and Wabasha with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure. The company will complete construction of FTTH networks in Red Wing and Lake City this summer.

Formed in 1997, HBC evolved as a successor to an innovative not-for-profit education initiative which connected the Winona community's educational institutions to a fiber-optic network and transformed teaching and learning via the Internet.

Additionally, HBC media productions produces and airs local programming - including news, local sporting events, government meetings and many more community activities & events - on its own exclusive TV25 and TV20 channels. HBC also offers a wide range of advanced voice and data services, along with business consulting and advertising services.
