Intervideo Unveils Dvd Xpack and MP3 Xpack

Downloadable plug-ins enable users to play DVDs and rip MP3s with Windows Media Player for Windows XP.

Fremont, Calif.(22 Oct 2001)

InterVideo, Inc. today announced the immediate availability of two new plug-ins, or XPacks, that extend the capabilities of Windows Media Player for Windows XP. InterVideo's DVD XPack includes a Windows XP-compatible DVD decoder, enabling DVD playback in Windows Media Player. InterVideo's MP3 XPack adds the ability to rip CDs into high bit rate MP3 digital audio files with the Windows Media Player.

The two new XPacks are available for purchase now from the InterVideo Web site, www.intervideo.com.

"InterVideo is known for high-end audio and video applications such as WinDVD, the world's most popular DVD software player," said Steve Ro, CEO and co-founder of InterVideo. "Now InterVideo has built on this core technology and created two new products to extend the DVD and MP3 functionality of the Windows Media Player."

"We have worked closely with InterVideo to ensure that these high-quality XPacks are compatible with Windows Media Player for Windows XP," said Jonathan Usher, group manager for the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corp. "With the MP3 XPack, fans of the MP3 format can for the first time create MP3 files from directly within Windows Media Player, or they can choose Windows Media Audio. The DVD XPack ensures that everyone with a DVD drive on their PC can enjoy the rich DVD playback experience possible with Windows Media Player."

Movie buffs can use the DVD XPack to play DVD movies with Windows Media Player. The DVD XPack is built on the same core technology as WinDVD, the world's most popular software DVD player with over 14 million users. The DVD XPack also features Dolby-certified audio decoding for great-sounding movies.

The MP3 XPack enables users to rip a CD in the MP3 format at bit rates ranging from 96K to 320K.

Windows Media Player for Windows XP is the first media player to support DVD playback, offering powerful full-screen controls and offline access to DVD chapter and media information.

Availability, Pricing and Compatibility
The MP3 XPack and DVD XPack are available for purchase only via InterVideo's web site at www.intervideo.com. The MP3 XPack is $9.95 and the DVD XPack is $14.95. A bundle of both is available for $19.95. InterVideo's XPacks are compatible with Windows XP and are currently available only in English. Other languages will follow later this year.
