Jet-Stream Enhances VideoExchange, Enabling Service Providers to Implement a Three Screens CDN Strategy
Software-based CDN solution now includes tools to support seamless delivery of ‘open play’ content to TVs, PCs and mobile devices
Amsterdam - IBC 2010(10 Sep 2010)
Jet-Stream BV, the leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) solutions, today announced key enhancements to its VideoExchange platform, a software-based solution for service providers to rapidly and cost-effectively launch their own three screens CDN. The latest version of VideoExchange includes support for Apple adaptive HTTP bitrate streaming, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, caching support and an accelerated process engine, tools that support the seamless delivery of content to any device, at any time, in any location.
"Service providers, including telcos, must prepare for the next step in their lifecycle evolution, migrating from triple-play companies to 'open-play’ providers of content to all three screens," said Stef van der Ziel, Jet-Stream CEO. “With Jet-Stream’s VideoExchange solution, service providers can deploy their own CDNs, ensuring end-users have open, unfettered access to high quality content, whether it’s delivered to a set-top box, PC or mobile device. VideoExchange gives service providers control to solidify their positions as an integral piece of the CDN value chain, competing directly with third-party CDNs and monetizing the delivery of content.”
VideoExchange is the only solution supporting the delivery of content in any format to all three screens. VideoExchange does not require an appliance-based approach dependent on third-party vendors to support a CDN, instead offering an open, intelligent and on-network content delivery solution.
By deploying their own CDN, service providers have a platform to upsell premium services to subscribers, helping them differentiate their offerings from competitors, as well as monetize the distribution of online media and over-the-top (OTT) content. On-net CDNs also permit service providers to manage traffic, allowing them to meet the enormous demand for streaming content sent to mobile devices or set-top boxes supporting OTT services. A service provider’s CDN also can supply advanced wholesale hosting and delivery services to content owners.
Enhancements for Jet-Stream’s VideoExchange CDN solution include:
- Adaptive bitrate streaming: Ensures the delivery of high-quality content to any of the three screens. Adaptive bitrate streaming is especially ideal for mobile devices, including the Apple iPhone, and HTTP streaming capabilities support advanced portable devices such as Apple’s iPad. In addition, VideoExchange works with multimedia application development platforms such as Microsoft Silverlight.
- Caching support: Provides caching capabilities for vendor partners with servers and other hardware supporting a CDN. VideoExchange’s new caching capabilities also work with open source caching software such as Squid, Nginx and Varnish.
- Accelerated process engine: For service providers that want detailed information on traffic and content usage tied to CDNs, VideoExchange provides an engine that processes reports within minutes, detailing content access patterns and user behavior.
