KIT digital Adds Connected TV to Platforms for Major Broadcaster
Company Continues Its Work With OSN on Multi-Platform Delivery With Samsung App
Las Vegas, NV (08 Apr 2013)
Following successful implementations at major broadcasters around the world such as RTÉ in Ireland and Liberty Global's Horizon TV in the Netherlands, KIT digital is now working to extend OSN Play to Samsung connected televisions using its Connected Device Framework. This is a continuation of work that KIT has been doing with the Middle East satellite broadcaster since the end of 2011.
KIT digital developed the OSN Play platform and user apps for iPad and Android tablets, delivering a PC and Mac solution in March 2012, adding live streaming and delivery to iPad in time for the London 2012 Games and further extending to Android tablets in the Autumn. KIT designed and developed the user experience, creating a look and feel that remains constant across platforms, as well as implementing and integrating the underlying technical platform, which is powered by the KIT VOD Store product, with OSN's back office systems.
"The video on demand and multi-platform offering is a critical part of OSN's business going forward, because we know our subscribers want to access our great content anytime, anywhere," said Mark Billinge, VP of Broadcast Operations and Technology at OSN. "We chose KIT digital as our partner because they have proven experience of delivering this type of technology, and could integrate it into our existing platforms to minimise the additional investment."
As part of this continuing work, KIT digital developed a proof of concept (POC) for an app for Samsung connected TVs. This POC successfully demonstrated that the same user experience could be translated to the smart television environment. Following its acceptance, KIT digital is now moving to implement a fully-featured production version of the app and the related updates to the OSN Play delivery platform, based on its Connected Device Framework.
"We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with OSN as they roll out their multi-platform strategy to ever more devices," said Mark Christie, CTO of KIT digital. "Because we are working with broadcasters worldwide on developing just this sort of solution we can cross-fertilise our development teams, giving us an unprecedented breadth of experience. In turn, that means we can deliver working, stable and attractive solutions quickly and cost-effectively."
KIT digital is demonstrating the breadth of its capabilities in systems design, user experience and delivery at NAB 2013 in the South Upper hall on booth SU9121.
