Kaltura and Harmonic Collaborate on End-to-End, Cloud Based, Video Infrastructure that Combines a Virtual Headend and a Complete Service Delivery Platform

Provides OTT and broadcast service providers with new ways to deploy an all cloud-based TV service featuring linear TV, VOD, catch-up, start-over and nPVR content

IBC 2014 (15 Sep 2014)

Kaltura, the leading video technology company, and Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, today announced they are collaborating on an end-to-end video infrastructure that creates a holistic OTT TV platform that is delivered as a service (TV PaaS).

Aimed at both OTT and traditional broadcast service providers, the fully managed solution makes it easy to roll out virtualized, cloud-based services featuring linear TV, VOD, catch-up, start-over and nPVR content using new business models such as subscriptions, pay-per-view, pay-per-service and pay-per-dimension (recording space, household members, device quantities and stream concurrencies).  The two companies have partnered previously on successful deployments with leading global media companies and operators.

Available now, the collaboration marries Kaltura’s OTT TV, content management, service delivery platform and user experience management with the Harmonic VOS software-based media processing architecture, Electra XVM virtualized media processor and ProMedia Origin streaming video server. The new solution will be on show at IBC 2014 on booths 3.C67 (Kaltura) and 1.B20 (Harmonic).

“Providing new ways for OTT and broadcast service providers to monetise cloud-based content quickly and easily is at the core of what we do. Through this relationship with Harmonic, we can together help customers reap the benefits of cost-effective new cloud-based revenue models tha will boost viewer engagement and build ARPU,” said Ron Yekutiel, Chairman and CEO, Kaltura.

“This latest collaboration with Kaltura builds on our shared values and the great work we are doing together with clients. Our combined end-to-end video infrastructure makes it easy for broadcasters and service providers to adopt an affordable, managed service that lets them experiment with a wide range of new and emerging business models that will delight end users,” added Shahar Bar, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Harmonic.

Kaltura’s open standards-based platform powers all types of video experiences, providing media companies, content owners, telcos and service providers with advanced video management, publishing, and monetization tools that increase reach and increase revenue, while simplifying production and publishing workflows.

The Harmonic VOS extensible platform enables virtualized media processing, such as Harmonic’s new Electra XVM integrated software package, the industry’s first software-based, fully converged, broadcast-ready media processing platform. Integrating real-time encoding, high-quality branding and graphics, and transport stream playout for broadcast and multiscreen services, Electra XVM offers users unparalleled function integration, increased operational flexibility and unlimited scalability.
