Liquid Compass: Ad Streaming Revenue Up for Country Music Stations in 2012
New listener demographics released by CMA highlight online and mobile opportunities
Denver, Colo. (18 Jul 2012)
The Country Music Association released a listener survey in June with surprising new demographics for country music listeners. According to the CMA data, country music listeners are of a higher income level and education level than previously believed, and 74 percent of country music fans reported listening to music online. This data corresponds with new Liquid Compass information showing an increase in ad replacement and mobile app use by country music radio stations.
“The increase in online radio listeners, smart phone users and a more sophisticated audience means that country music stations have more opportunities for multi-platform revenue streams,” said Zackary Lewis, CEO and founder of Liquid Compass.
According to Liquid Compass, 76 percent of country music stations that use their online streaming platform integrate ad replacement in their online music streaming to further monetize radio programming and to offer more options to station advertisers. Also, 39 percent of the country radio stations are now using mobile apps for music streaming.
“Many radio stations currently struggle with the costs of royalties, but online streaming can provide a revenue goldmine for the entire music industry,” said Lewis. “Artists can increase music sales through click-through purchases to online stores like iTunes and stations can help advertisers with more targeted ads via online and mobile listening.”
To date, 15 percent of country music radio stations upgraded Liquid Compass’ new LC PRO 2.0 platform and now have the ability to utilize player takeovers, couponing, polling and social media integration.
