MediaPlatform and Peer5 Partner to Provide High Scalability Live Webcasting via WebRTC

Clientless Peering Solution Provides a Powerful Option for Global 2000 Companies Looking to Replace or Supplement Existing Peering, Multicast and Edge Caching Delivery Technologies

North Hollywood(07 May 2020)

MediaPlatform today announced support for Peer5 WebRTC-based peering within its Broadcaster live webcasting platform. The addition of WebRTC-based peering within Broadcaster enables Global 2000 organizations to use an increasingly popular distribution solution for live and on-demand video streams. The integration also enables MediaPlatform customers to monitor, in near real-time, Peer5 distribution within MediaPlatform’s Video Business Intelligence (VBI) Quality of Service dashboard. With this integration, MediaPlatform customers now enjoy the market’s widest array of live webcast distribution and QoS reporting options.

Peer5 offers a clientless solution that uses JavaScript instead of the proprietary plug-ins employed by older peering solutions. Peer5 enables media players to automatically detect other viewers so they can connect and share the same content over the corporate LAN, reducing the Internet bandwidth needed for company-wide webcasts.

MediaPlatform’s unique video delivery intelligence, provided by VBI, enables it to measure webcast viewers’ experience across multiple, third-party video delivery solutions – including Peer5 – in near real time. Network operations and webcasting teams use VBI to monitor excessive video buffering, failovers or slow video start times by subnet or even down to individual viewers.

Via a close integration and engineering partnership with Peer5, MediaPlatform can cross-reference VBI viewer experience data with Peer5’s client analytics to get an even clearer view of video and network performance across users and environments.

“Peer5 is delighted to team with MediaPlatform, the recognized leader in enterprise video platforms,” said Hadar Weiss, Co-Founder and CEO of Peer5.  “We are already serving a number of Fortune 500 joint customers who recognize how effortlessly our solution can be deployed to offload 80 - 95% of office Internet bandwidth during large video events.”

“Peer5 gives enterprise customers a fast, effective way to use peering for our live webcasts,” said Mike Newman, CEO of MediaPlatform. “The feedback from our existing joint customers has been overwhelmingly positive and we are delighted to partner with them to provide even more delivery and monitoring options to our Global 2000 customers,” Newman said.

MediaPlatform’s Enterprise Video Platform includes its next-generation live webcasting platform, MediaPlatform® Broadcaster, which gives producers easy-to-use, browser-based multimedia production capabilities with enterprise-class security and reliability, and the MediaPlatform® Event Success Dashboard (ESD), a real-time analytics tool that lets business broadcasters monitor in real time how audiences are reacting to webcast content via an audience sentiment widget that lets viewers register sentiment votes using intuitive emoticons.

Its end-to-end enterprise video platform also includes the MediaPlatform® On Demand video content management portal, and MediaPlatform’s video delivery capabilities – including its Smartpath network overlay rules engine for management of failover and redundancy across multiple vendor technologies and the MediaPlatform® Edge eCDN.

About Peer5

Peer5 solves the network congestion problem that occurs during large streaming events such as all-hands meetings. When everybody tries to watch the same video at the same time, the office Internet connection becomes saturated and unusable. Peer5 solves this problem by creating an efficient P2P mesh network within the corporate LAN that reduces the load on the ISP link by 90%. Peer5 leverages WebRTC which means no additional software or hardware is needed, just a modern browser. Peer5 is trusted by companies such as SAP, Adobe, Ebay, PWC, Deutsche Telekom and DXC to deliver their most important video events. www.peer5.com
