Ooyala Launches Applications For Collaborative Asset Management, Enhancing Any Video Workflow With Automation

Ooyala launches new versions of its Media Asset Manager (MAM) and Reviewer applications as part of its media logistics platform, Ooyala Flex

SANTA CLARA, Calif.(13 Dec 2016)

Ooyala, a Telstra subsidiary and a leading global innovator in premium video publishing, production workflows, analytics and monetization has launched new versions of its MAM (media asset management) application and Reviewer application for its media logistics platform, Ooyala Flex. The new solutions make it easier for broadcasters, publishers and media companies to manage, review and approve video assets while automating steps in the workflow and capturing the associated data in the management phase of video production.

Both applications are highly configurable, taking advantage of the powerful workflow capabilities of Ooyala Flex. With a modular approach, the applications can be used separately or together. When deployed together, customers benefit from enhanced collaboration and efficiencies not found in traditional offerings on the market, allowing creative teams to focus only on the tasks that add value and creativity to productions.

Greater Control and Automation with Ooyala Flex

With the Reviewer and MAM applications running on Ooyala Flex, customers have all of the tools they need to orchestrate, review, approve and collaborate on every aspect of video content creation. With the workflow capabilities inherent to Ooyala Flex, customers can automatically trigger review sessions for specific people for specific assets, supporting multiple simultaneous review sessions at a time. Teams can set review parameters so certain decision makers only review their required components of the video, while also setting corresponding deadlines.

Once complete, Ooyala Flex will automatically send email or web notifications to next-in-line reviewers or stakeholders in the production process. This includes the ability for heads of production to digitally authorize the approval of a piece of content. Ooyala Flex automatically stores approvals in the metadata repository of assets and carries the information throughout the remaining steps in the workflow.

MAM Application

The HTML-5 based MAM application can be tailored to match each customer’s unique production workflow. Non-technical users are able to easily upload and organize video and image assets, search for and update metadata, perform rough-cut edits and review assets with internal teammates. The MAM application also connects directly into Ooyala Flex, allowing customers to customize their metadata definitions, define the relationships between assets and automate tasks like encoding, transcoding and quality control (QC).

Reviewer Application

The Reviewer application for Ooyala Flex lets individuals that are either inside or outside of the organization securely review, approve and submit time-coded comments on selected content from anywhere in the world, anytime?including real-time collaboration and annotation for images. Ooyala Flex customers can set permissions for users outside of their organization, ensuring the integrity of content and protecting metadata by providing fine-grained access for specific people in the review process. Customers can also automatically create a new Reviewer session from a workflow, inviting both Ooyala Flex users and external users to participate, while tracking the entire process.

“The MAM and Reviewer applications introduce more functionality, collaboration and automation into video production workflows for our customers,” said Ooyala Co-founder and Senior Vice President of Products and Solutions, Belsasar Lepe. “As workflows migrate towards IP, solutions like Ooyala Flex and media logistics help connect siloed teams and disparate systems for a more unified and data-driven approach to content creation.”

Integrations and Customizable Architecture

Ooyala Flex also includes best-of-breed technology integrations with companies such as Oracle DIVArchive for storage management system, FileCatalyst for file transfer services, Elemental for cloud or on-premise transcoding, Adobe for content editing and others.

In addition, the latest version of Ooyala Flex utilizes a micro-service architecture within the software, allowing every function of Ooyala Flex to be deployed independently with its own unique process, workflow and communication. Customers can run their own workflow configurations, host them using any provider they wish and grow and shrink services size based on peak or slow activity. The modern architecture also makes it easier to develop new features and services, and deploy quickly, either on-premise or in the cloud, with minimal resources.

Analyst Quote

“There’s an urgency to scale production without scaling costs in the industry today. In order to meet the demands of consumers and distribution constituents, production teams require collaborative systems that streamline processes like approvals and quality control, especially when producing multiple versions of the same asset for global or multi-platform distribution,” said Program Vice President for Content and Digital Media Technologies of IDC, Melissa Webster. “In the new digital world of broadcast, systems that bring visibility, structure, control, efficiency and connect currently siloed teams will save time, costs and, ultimately, drive up revenue.”
