Ooyala Now Powering Premium Content Delivery to Presto on Chromecast Devices

Australia’s Presto using Ooyala technology to deliver movie entertainment service via Chromecast

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (09 Sep 2014)

Ooyala, the leading innovator in premium video publishing, analytics and monetization, today announced it is now powering premium content for Presto on Chromecast devices, enabling customers to boost revenue streams through increased device and audience reach. Presto, Australia’s premium movie streaming service used Ooyala’s new technology to extend its entertainment experience to TVs via Chromecast.

Ooyala built Presto’s Chromecast experience from the ground up pulling from Ooyala’s video publishing suite, including content protection, playback and discovery as well as cross-device resume, bookmarking and analytics. In addition, to support Chromecast devices, Ooyala integrated its HTML5 player technology with Google Media Libraries SDK to allow playback for PlayReady DRM-protected content using Presto’s full subscription and PPV video service.

According to Ooyala’s Q1 2014 Global Video Index Report, viewers increasingly want to watch premium, long-form content on larger screens using connected devices. The study showed that nearly 80 percent of time watched on connected TVs was spent with videos longer than 10 minutes in length.

“Supporting Chromecast devices is a natural progression for our technology. We focus on delivering content to any screen anywhere in the world,” said Jonathan Wilner, vice president of products for Ooyala. “Chromecast and other connected TV devices represent a tremendous opportunity for broadcasters and publishers to reach more audience and increase revenue with personalized viewing on the biggest screen in the house."
