Doceo Publishing today announced the 2018 Edition of Jan Ozer’s book, Learn to Produce Video with FFmpeg in 30 Minutes or Less. The update will cost $34.95 (print) or $29.95 (PDF) with the PDF version available immediately and the print version available by around September 1.

The book describes the theory and tradeoffs associated which each configuration option so readers can make informed decisions, and all batch files used in the book are available for download.
In his Amazon review for the first edition, reader Steward commented, “Everything here is already available on the net. But this is much easier. Worth the price just to have it all in one place. Easy to read and understand. Does not go into depth on all ffmpeg options, just covers what most of us need to do.” From the UK Amazon site, Dom adds, “Covering key codecs and approaches to using them through FFmpeg, Jan provides a great handbook for those who want to quickly scratch the surface of FFmpeg, and get moving with straightforward video workflows using the tool.”
The new edition adds instruction on:
- Packaging to DASH and HLS formats with open-source tool Bento4
- How to create a hybrid HEVC/H.264 encoding ladder for HLS deployment
- How to encode and package VP9 files into DASH format with FFmpeg 4.0
- How to transcode inputs into multiple files simultaneously using the H.264, HEVC, and VP9 codecs for live ABR streaming
- Encoding to the Alliance for Open Media AV1 format with FFmpeg 4.0.
