PeerApp Inks Multi-Million Dollar Operator Caching Infrastructure Deal with Cable Operator

PeerApp, the leader in Internet content caching infrastructure, today announced it has closed a deal worth approximately five million dollars for caching infrastructure with an operating unit of a Tier One cable operator.

Newton, MA(25 Mar 2014)

PeerApp, the leader in Internet content caching infrastructure, today announced it has closed a deal worth approximately five million dollars for caching infrastructure with an operating unit of a Tier One cable operator. PeerApp’s award-winning UltraBand transparent caching solution is being used to guarantee subscriber quality of experience (QoE) for this large multiple-system operator (MSO). Operator caching plays an important role at the edge of service provider networks by intelligently caching and bringing the most frequently requested Internet content closer to the subscriber.

UltraBand is the only caching solution that supports video, HTTP file downloads, software updates and peer-to-peer traffic in a single platform. It is the most scalable platform in the industry, and it is fully transparent to preserve application logic and ensure freshness of content. PeerApp’s UltraBand solution was selected by this cable operator due its ability to scale to very high capacities, and to be deployed at different locations within the network.

“We offer cable operators the caching triple play – quality of experience, cost savings, and over-the-top content monetization,” said Robert Mayer, CEO at PeerApp. “By implementing PeerApp’s multi-service caching infrastructure they are ensuring quality delivery of a wide variety of popular video and web content.”

Before the implementation of operator caching, the cable operator's subscribers were unhappy with the quality of their broadband service, and had complaints despite the operator’s investment in robust infrastructure. This was due to congestion at Internet traffic exchange points that are not managed by the operator, but through which traffic destined for end-users needed to pass. By deploying UltraBand, the operator was able to bring the most popular and frequently accessed content onto its network and manage the quality of its delivery. Since UltraBand has been installed in the network, customers have seen the difference with a much better overall quality of experience. This allows customers to take full advantage of the speed in the operator's local access network and gives the operator meaningful differentiation in a competitive broadband marketplace.
