Piksel, a global leader in building successful online video businesses, today announces the acquisition of Lingospot to augment Piksel’s know-how in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) for video. The acquisition adds Lingospot’s innovative metadata extraction services to the Piksel Palette™, cementing Piksel’s position as a champion for next-generation video analysis powering intuitive search, recommendations, and discovery.
Lingospot’s technology will strengthen Piksel Fuse™ Metadata, a product which consolidates and enriches metadata, while sharing it across both broadcast and OTT workflows. Fuse is built on the foundation of the Piksel Palette™, a micro-services architecture (MSA) built specifically with the needs of online video, flexibility, and scalability in mind. Lingospot’s patented and patent-pending natural language processing, semantic search, image analysis, and machine-learning technologies will be leveraged in the Palette to create proprietary metadata on a scene-by-scene basis, giving Piksel customers a unique competitive advantage in the marketplace.
“Since the dawn of the digital age, the amount of information, data, and entertainment available has increased exponentially. So much so that it’s no longer just about finding content, but finding the right content in a sea of options. As a result, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to capture and keep a viewer’s attention, which is why hyper-personalization of content discovery is essential to user engagement. At the heart of this user experience is the quality and granularity of metadata. It’s become particularly critical for MVPDs (direct-broadcast satellites, cable television, and wireline video providers), and broadcast and cable networks to efficiently consolidate their metadata between linear and OTT services, and to augment, in a granular way, the metadata associated with every VOD and linear asset. This will allow them to further enhance their search, discovery and recommendation services and to ultimately improve customer engagement with all the content,” said Fabrice Hamaide, President at Piksel.
“Lingospot shares Piksel’s passion for innovation. Together, our metadata enrichment services will allow our customers to evolve their business faster and simultaneously meet the increasing demands of the modern viewer. Piksel and Lingospot have been working closely in a technology partnership since 2015 and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the Piksel family.”
Nikos Iatropoulos, current CEO of Lingospot commented: “Over the last few years, Lingospot has built technology that can automatically decipher exactly what is happening inside a video stream, on a scene-by-scene basis, in real-time. We’ve enjoyed working alongside Piksel and are thrilled to be joining their team at this very interesting time in the media and entertainment industry. We are excited to see the technology we’ve built at Lingospot augment Piksel Fuse™ Metadata and become a part of the Piksel Palette.”
Upon joining Piksel, Nikos Iatropoulos will become Piksel’s SVP Business Development, Media and Telecom. The remaining Lingospot employees will join Piksel’s product and research and development groups.
