ORION Content Monitoring Suite With Multiviewer Wins Product of the Year and Millicom Streaming Workflow Wins Project of the Year
CUPERTINO, Calif. — April 22, 2025 — Interra Systems, a leading provider of end-to-end quality assurance solutions for the digital media industry, today announced that its ORION content monitoring suite with multiviewer won the 2025 NAB Show Product of the Year Award in the Monitoring and Measuring Tools category, while the project Proactive End-to-End Streaming Media Workflow for Millicom won the 2025 NAB Show Project of the Year Award in the Distribution category. The NAB Show Project of the Year Award was a first-of-its-kind program recognizing excellence across the broadcasting and entertainment industry, honoring cutting-edge applications, installations, workflows, and use cases that push boundaries and redefine possibilities, with the winners selected by a panel of industry peers.
Interra Systems’ ORION suite performs comprehensive monitoring of linear/IP and live/VOD streaming content. The suite's latest capabilities include a state-of-the-art multiviewer feature that helps media companies deliver content with high quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE). It combines real-time visualization with comprehensive monitoring capabilities — something no other multiviewer does.
The ORION multiviewer feature boasts several other qualities that set it apart from competing solutions. For example, browser-based accessibility means users can monitor live feeds remotely instead of having to be present in a network/broadcast operations center — making it easier to manage large-scale streaming operations from anywhere. As a software-based tool, it works on commercial off-the-shelf hardware, on prem, or in the cloud.
For the Millicom project, Millicom needed a robust, end-to-end monitoring solution to ensure seamless delivery of its rapidly expanding Tigo ONE TV service across nine countries. Millicom partnered with Interra Systems to deploy the ORION suite from headend to post-origin.
Interra Systems, in close collaboration with its systems integrator partner SDT, implemented the ORION platform to monitor Millicom’s streaming media workflow.
“NAB is proud to recognize the industry’s top work driving a remarkable range of solutions opening new frontiers and shaping the future of content creation, distribution and monetization,” said Eric Trabb, senior vice president and chief customer success officer at NAB. “Congratulations to Interra Systems on earning the 2025 NAB Show Project of the Year Award and empowering storytellers to connect with audiences in breakthrough ways that are shaping the future of media.”
The project involved a complex, remote deployment of ORION's components on a hybrid infrastructure of more than 30 virtualized and bare-metal hosts. Interra Systems delivered the ORION, ORION-OTT, and ORION Central Manager software products, along with a custom script for automated report generation and conversion to support integration with existing data aggregators. Management components reside on virtual servers, while monitoring probes are strategically deployed on bare-metal servers within Millicom's content network. This setup ensures real-time monitoring of thousands of MPEG-2 transport streams and HLS services across multiple stages, including video processing, packaging, and CDN delivery. The solution's support for Verimatrix DRM enables thorough QoS and QoE checks on decoded content, ensuring a superior viewing experience. In addition, the use of Microsoft Azure SAML authentication simplifies user management, enhancing Millicom’s operational efficiency.
This hybrid approach optimizes resource utilization and performance. Virtualized components provide flexibility and scalability, while bare-metal servers ensure high performance for demanding monitoring tasks. The strategic placement of monitoring probes within Millicom's content network provides comprehensive coverage and enables rapid identification of potential issues.
“What made this project unique and pioneering was its scale and complexity. Deploying and integrating sophisticated software-based monitoring across nine countries with diverse infrastructure capabilities, all remotely, was no small feat,” said Anupama Anantharaman, vice president of product management at Interra Systems. “It’s gratifying that the judges recognized all the hard work and ingenuity that Millicom, Interra Systems, and our partner SDT put into this project. This award highlights what’s possible in complex, end-to-end streaming workflows. We’re also thrilled that the judges chose to honor ORION multiviewer as Product of the Year. ORION multiviewer redefines how media companies monitor and troubleshoot live video streams.”
Both the NAB project of the Year Awards and Product of the Year Awards were announced during a ceremony at the 2025 NAB Show on April 8.
