Qumu Enterprise Video Platform Extended Through Mobile Initiative
Qumu, the leader in Enterprise Video Communications, introduces a mobile initiative that expands its enterprise video platform to mobile devices while enabling rapid development of new video-rich mobile applications.
San Bruno, CA(04 Apr 2011)
Today Qumu Inc. announced the developer release of mobile extensions to its enterprise video platform. These extensions reduce the time and cost required to deliver rich video applications to a wide range of tablet computers and smartphones. .
"Mobility has emerged as a significant force within the enterprise. We've created a complete set of tools and programs to address our customers' needs for keeping mobility simple yet powerful."
-- Ray Hood, Qumu CEO
The mobility components complement the foundation of Qumu Video Control Center and Qumu VideoEdge that comprise a platform for video management and delivery on enterprise networks. The extensions take advantage of the Qumu platform features for content management, security and access control, content transcoding and ingest, adaptive streaming, network optimization, analytics and reporting. Together, the Qumu platform and mobility extensions provide a holistic end-to-end solution for Enterprise mobile video.
The Qumu Mobility Application (QMA) delivers enterprise-class video to a host of devices, including Apple iPhone & iPad, Google Android smart phones and tablets, as well as Blackberry mobile devices. QMA also meets stringent requirements for enterprise mobility by affording controlled and secure access to important video content available anywhere through Wi-Fi and 3G/4G networks.
Today's announcement includes:
Q-Sim -- PC-based software that allows anyone to quickly prototype mobile video applications for smartphone and tablet computers.
Q-Link -- A complete SDK with supporting API that delivers a rich toolset for developing mobile applications that seamlessly leverage the content creation, management and delivery capabilities of the Qumu platform
Q-Force -- A program for certifying and supporting enterprise mobile application developers building solutions on top of the Qumu platform.
Q-Sim - PC Based iPhone/iPad Simulator
iPads, smartphones, and competing tablet computers have been highly popular with consumers, and are also being used extensively inside corporate firewalls. In anticipation of this trend, Qumu has, over the last 22 months, been constructing a proprietary PC Based iPhone/iPad simulation and app creation tool. This capability, unique to Qumu, enables non-technical personnel to easily construct and simulate fully interactive iPhone/iPad interfaces. This tool allows customers to not only simulate how they can use video in their own mobile environment, but it allows them to incorporate elements of their software infrastructure to understand how the entire application works - not just the video aspects.
"When we started building the Q-Sim application for Qumu almost two years ago, our goal was to change the process of app creation -- which typically required engineering, art, and design -- to enable non-technical executives, managers, and virtually anyone to easily participate in the prototyping process." said Todd Porter, VP of Product Innovation and Marketing.
An Android version of Q-Sim is slated for late 2011.
Q-Link - SDK/API Enables all Qumu Features on Mobile Devices
To ensure that applications running on mobile devices are as functional and full-featured as the applications running on desktops, Qumu has constructed Q-Link, a complete SDK/API. Developed for iPhones, iPads, Blackberries, Windows Mobile and Android devices, Q-Link gives application developers seamless access to all features of the Qumu Video Control Center, while adding mobile centric technologies important to our customers: permissioning, DRM, security and storage, optimized delivery, adaptive streaming, and Qumu's own Adaptive Ceiling technology.
Q-Force - Qumu Certified Developer Program
To help partners and customers get the maximum value from these tools, Qumu has also announced the Q-Force certified mobile application developer program. Q-Force developers have long history and deep experience in enterprise application construction, are experts in Qumu's Q-Link SDK/API, and are multi-platform enabled, meaning that they can simultaneously develop applications for the IOS (iPhone/iPad), Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Android platforms. As a result, Qumu customers can be assured that their applications are professionally developed and tested, and are ready for all devices introduced into the enterprise infrastructure as a result of "Choice Computing."
"Smartphones and tablet computers represent a large growth area for enterprise video deployment and consumption, and Qumu's mobile extensions make it easy to deliver to these platforms and enable new video-rich applications for a wide range of vertical markets. Riverbed intends to leverage these tools to showcase how our WAN optimization and streaming video distribution capabilities can deliver an integrated and scalable solution for our customers."
-- Rick Holden, Director of Technology Alliances, Riverbed
