Rumblefish Catalog Surpasses One Million Songs Pre-Cleared for Music Licensing

Over five million videos have used soundtracks from the world’s largest pre-cleared music catalog

PORTLAND, Ore. (05 Apr 2012)

Rumblefish, the leader in music licensing for social media, today announced that its catalog has surpassed one million songs, making it the world’s largest pre-cleared catalog of music. Each song in the catalog is available for on-demand licensing for social video, slideshows, mashes and games via friendlymusic.com or through one of the many Rumblefish partners, including YouTubeSocialcam and Animoto. Rumblefish also now operates the most licensed independent catalog in the world, with more than 5.4 million soundtracks licensed.

"Our catalog growth is a direct result of incredible demand from the hundreds of millions of consumers and millions of small business owners adding soundtracks to billions of social videos," said Rumblefish CEO Paul Anthony. "The Rumblefish catalog is now able to power large-scale consumer offerings for any type of video product, especially when combined with easy to use soundtrack search tools and excellent editorial content. Professional music supervisors are seeing big benefits to the expanded music catalog for their movie, advertisement and TV show productions, as well."

New content partnerships have helped grow the Rumblefish Music catalog from 35,000 songs, to more than 500,000 in 2011, and now to more than one million songs today. APM Music, CD Baby and Indaba were recently added to the Rumblefish catalog, and more partnerships are in the works. The Rumblefish catalog now has more than 100,000 artists that have been paid millions of dollars in royalties from licensing revenue.

Rumblefish artist Ryan Huston has seen his popularity skyrocket as a result of the use of his music in a number of productions, especially YouTube and Animoto videos. “As an independent, solo musician, making a living through music is becoming increasingly difficult. Rumblefish is a welcomed ally I am grateful for and has allowed me to focus my energy on music, instead of the distractions of the music business,” Mr. Huston commented. “Rumblefish solves a real problem in the industry with their MicroSync offering, allowing artists like me to provide consumers a way to license into user-generated content. This is a difficult problem no one but Rumblefish has yet solved.”

In 2008, Rumblefish struck a landmark licensing deal with YouTube and in July 2010 it deepened that relationship with the launch of Friendly Music. This was the first service to offer YouTube users a direct license for pre-cleared soundtracks for their videos.

Rumblefish recently announced a major update to Friendly Music, along with the availability of its Friendly Music mobile SDK for Apple iOS that gives developers free and easy-to-implement soundtrack search and recommendation tools for video or photo applications. The Friendly Music mobile SDK is built on the Rumblefish API. All of these Rumblefish offerings contain the more than one million songs available for licensing.
