Video Streaming Protocol Continues Momentum to Becoming Industry Standard

Montreal, Canada(28 Mar 2019)

The SRT Alliance, supporting the SRT Open Source Project, announces that Avid® has endorsed the SRT protocol for low-latency video streaming.

As the newest member of the SRT Alliance, Avid joins more than 200 companies, including Microsoft, Comcast, EBU/Eurovision, Harmonic, Ateme, MediaKind, Brightcove, and Kaltura, who have shown their support of the emerging SRT video streaming standard. For a current list of SRT Alliance members visit srtalliance.org/members.

SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) is an open-source protocol, developed by Haivision, which allows broadcasters and streamers to deliver high-quality, low-latency streams across the public internet. SRT is fast becoming the de facto low-latency video streaming standard in the broadcast and streaming industries.

“We’re looking forward to working with the SRT Alliance and the SRT protocol as we continue to develop leading media and entertainment solutions for news and sports,” said Raymond Thompson, Director of Broadcast and Media Solutions Marketing at Avid. “The goals of the SRT open source project are helping move the broadcast industry forward and we’re excited to help drive new innovations and broadcast adoption.”

Avid will be featuring presentations on news workflows that take advantage of the SRT protocol as part of an end to end workflow at Avid Connect 2019 at the Aria on April 6-7. To learn more, visit: https://www.avid.com/connect.

At the NAB Show 2019, Avid will be participating in a free-to-attend panel session: Leveraging SRT and Cloud Broadcast Services to Accelerate Production in the Microsoft Azure Ecosystem. Hosted by Haivision and Microsoft, this panel will feature top broadcasters and industry leaders from Al Jazeera, Avid, Haivision, Microsoft and Net Insight as they discuss today’s challenges of accelerating the production of breaking news and delivering live events using cloud services and SRT.
