Spidercam and Vantrix Partner to Provide Industry Leading Aerial 360 Camera System for Broadcast and Live Virtual Reality

Broadcasters, sports leagues and studios can capture and deliver all the live action in smooth immersive VR.

Montreal, Canada(02 Sep 2016)

FEISTRITZ IM ROSENTAL, Austria and MONTREAL, Canada – September 2, 2016 - Spidercam, the world leader in aerial camera systems, and Vantrix, the global leader in next generation video services for transcoding and 360 virtual reality systems, today announced a partnership to provide industry-leading aerial 360 camera systems for broadcast and streaming.

Spidercam and Vantrix will be jointly showcasing at IBC2016 in Amsterdam from September 9-13.

“We are pleased to partner with Vantrix” says Jan Peters, CEO of Spidercam. “With their proven video background and breakthrough 360 innovations, they are the ideal partner as we take the next step toward the future of aerial camera systems.”

“We welcome the opportunity to partner with Spidercam”, says Vantrix CEO Jean Mayrand. “By combining forces, we can jointly offer the best 360 VR capture with the best aerial system, opening up a new immersive era for broadcasters, sports leagues and studios”.

Smooth flying
Spidercam offers multiple aerial systems for exterior, interior, stadium and studio settings. Use cases range from TV and movie studio production to sports such as baseball, cricket, equestrian, football, hockey, soccer, tennis, water polo as well as events and concerts. Spidercam offers a range of payloads with aerial systems that can travel up to 9 m/s with ultra-smooth operation across fields, vertically and from point-to-point. A redundancy of safety relevant mechanical components is complemented by constant monitoring of all critical parts, in addition to a sophisticated safety software continuously checking system parameters.

New media experience
Vantrix 360 is a purpose-built broadcast quality Live VR system enabling immersive experiences from glass to glass. Media generated with Vantrix 360 fundamentally changes the viewing experience, allowing users to independently explore their own field-of-view, creating an immersive “being-there, from-anywhere” sensation. Vantrix PRO series cameras deliver distortion-free 360x182° video feeds with a market-leading resolution of up to 5000 x 5000, 6.4 micron square pixels, up to 12-bit color depth and 240 fps frame rate, and generate up to 25Gbps hemispherical video feeds that require no stitching, reducing post processing time significantly without quality degradation. Producers can individually control up to 4 HD virtual cameras @60fps and integrate via SDI into existing production workflows. Studios can record and store up to 16TB of lossless video.

Synergies
The Spidercam and Vantrix combined system includes a complete aerial dolly, suspension cables, a camera, control station, cloud services, and a player for VR headsets, TV and mobile devices.  The combined system offers new ways for broadcasters, sports leagues and studios to capture all the action and deliver immersive content to their audiences. New ways to “tell the story” are also now possible, with replay features enabled by 360 VR such as freeze frame with angle change combined with point-of-view manipulation, allowing commentators to tell a more compelling story leading to increased audience engagement.

Call to action
In summary, broadcasters, sports leagues and studios can attract and engage a new generation of viewers by embracing VR as a new and complementary type of media and taking a system-wide approach focusing on high quality immersive video and audio from aerial camera capture, via the cloud, to end user devices.
