Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) today announced it has signed an agreement to serve as the primary streaming partner for TED, the global nonprofit devoted to “ideas worth spreading.” To ensure TED’s international audiences receive a reliable and truly optimized viewing experience, the organization will use Level 3’s highly scalable, global media delivery platform.
TED.com offers more than 1,400 free videos, known as “TED Talks,” which just surpassed one billion views. Each explores a single idea in 18 minutes or less, covering everything from distant galaxies and body language to ocean life and global challenges. The website is also the hub for other TED initiatives, including the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts for TED Talks.
“We are truly honored to help deliver TED’s extensive and continually growing repository of powerful, insightful talks from thought leaders around the world,” said Mark Taylor, vice president of Media and IP Services for Level 3. “TED distributes content globally, making it critically important that they have a high-quality, rapid CDN that can easily scale to handle large amounts of content. We are pleased to support them with our global CDN platform.”
