Wowza Media Systems and Verimatrix Partner; Preview Secure Any-Screen Streaming Solution at 2011 NAB Show

Wowza Media Server Integration With Verimatrix VCAS Enables On-the-Fly Live and VOD DRM for Mobile Phones, Connected TVs, Set-Top Boxes, and More Devices

Las Vegas, 2011 NAB Show(11 Apr 2011)

Wowza Media Systems®, the any screen done rightTM media server company, and Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multiscreen digital TV around the globe, today integration of Wowza Media Server® 3 with the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCASTM) for Internet TV key management. The integration provides robust and truly secure HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) with on-the-fly digital rights management (DRM) for live and on-demand Web and over-the-top services.

"Wowza brings a unique set of capabilities to bear on the challenges of real-time video transcoding and delivery," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix. "Because Wowza's implementation of standard HLS protocol is extremely robust, integration with the VCAS key management solution was straightforward. As a result Wowza customers can enable premium service delivery to a wide range of client device types."

Equipped with the Wowza DRMTM software AddOn, Wowza Media Server 3  provides secure key exchange using the Verimatrix VCAS, and encrypts individual video segments on the fly for HTTP Live Streaming to viewers on a wide range of devices including set-top boxes (STBs), connected TVs, iPhones®, iPads®, and AndroidTM tablets. Options for both registering and tracking individual devices, and managing device entitlements for content viewing make VCAS for Internet TV a significant enhancement over conventional HTTP Live Streaming encryption mechanisms. Verimatrix VCAS integration with Wowza Media Server 3 raises the potential for flexible business models that can help up-sell content for OTT premium services, and cross-sell content for multilayer, multi-device distribution.

"Partnering with Verimatrix enables us to offer a best-of-breed solution to our customers who need studio-approved security for delivery of premium content," said Dave Stubenvoll, CEO and co-founder of Wowza Media Systems. "The integration adds another dimension to the Wowza Media Server 3's growing suite of value-added capabilities, one that our customers can leverage to expand profitable services, simplify delivery workflows, and lower their overall costs."

With the Wowza DRM AddOn, as well as the recently announced Wowza TranscoderTM and Wowza Network DVRTM AddOns, Wowza Media Server 3 eliminates the provisioning complexity typical of adaptive bitrate streaming, reduces needed access bandwidth by up to 80 percent, and enables better utilization of network resources such as routers and switches. The result is not only simplicity but also increased system-wide reliability and overall lower cost.

General availability of Wowza Media Server 3 is expected in Q3 2011, at which time all current Wowza Media Server 2 licensees will be eligible for a free upgrade to the new platform. For live demonstrations of the joint solution at the 2011 NAB Show, visit Wowza Media Systems at booth SU9313, and Verimatrix at booth SU6207.
