iStreamPlanet to Offer Live and On-Demand Video Encoding Services on Windows Azure Media Services

Industry Leading Live and VoD Workflow Services Provider Enables Content Owners and Aggregators to Dynamically Scale Live, Live Linear and On-Demand Video Transcoding and Encryption With New Cloud-Based Solution

Las Vegas - NAB 2012(16 Apr 2012)

At The NAB Show 2012, iStreamPlanet (www.istreamplanet.com/) today announces that it will provide live and on-demand encoding workflow services as part of Windows Azure Media Services, Microsoft's cloud-based media services platform. iStreamPlanet's workflow services will bring dynamic scaling, high reliability and elasticity to meet growing consumer demand for online video. iStreamPlanet's video workflow services are currently used by leading content providers including NBC Sports, Comcast, Turner Broadcasting and AT&T, as a solution for acquiring, digitizing and publishing live and on-demand video to a variety of IP-connected devices around the world.

"iStreamPlanet has a long history of driving innovation in digital media," said Robin Cole, vice president, marketing at iStreamPlanet. "It is very exciting to be working with Microsoft to scale critical live and on-demand video workflows to rapidly increase the availability of online video."

Driven by the challenge and complexity of the constantly evolving digital media landscape, iStreamPlanet has digitized over tens of thousands of hours of live and video-on-demand (VoD) premium content. This content is accessed by global audiences on multiple devices using iStreamPlanet's video workflow products, infrastructure, and services.

"Microsoft is pleased to work with iStreamPlanet and its industry-proven, live video encoding services, which will run on Windows Azure Media Services," said Brian Goldfarb, director, product marketing at Microsoft Corp.

iStreamPlanet also announces today the hiring of Nick Vicars-Harris to the role of vice president of software engineering, where he will oversee the development of several new products and services in the company's expanding video workflow portfolio. Vicars-Harris conveys more than a decade of experience in bringing digital media solutions to market, having held senior positions at Microsoft, Comcast's The Platform and most recently, Harmonic, Inc.

Vicars-Harris drove the engineering and development behind the successful video workflow products at Harmonic and led The Platform as senior architect for its VoD services -- ultimately leading to a Comcast acquisition.
