Live-Streaming Technology Trends 2024

Sponsored by: Softvelum

Live streaming now makes up the majority of all streaming, and the results from this 2024 edition of the Live Streaming Technology Trends survey show just how industry professionals deliver protected live streams at cost and at a quality their audiences demand. Average data rates and resolutions are on the rise for live streaming, with the average data rate rising from ~5 Mbps to ~7.5 Mbps. This is due, in part, to the increased frame rate (from 1080p 24/25/30 to 1080p 50/60) that respondents indicate as the sweet spot for delivery. But it’s also due to an increased adoption rate for H.265 (HEVC). Download the Live-Streaming Technology Trends 2024 research brief to gain insights into the following and more:

  • Despite growth in cloud platforms, on-premise and hybrid approaches still impact almost half of all respondents’ workflows.
  • While newer protocols continue to gain in both acquisition and delivery use, legacy protocols “just work,” and they also power a large portion of the live streaming workflow.
  • Live streaming is very important to the business model for the majority of this survey’s respondents.
  • The industry remains split on both low-latency expectations and security around low-latency streams.
